♦ Biochim. Une des quatre bases azotées, constituant des acides ribonucléique et désoxyribonucléique. Dans l'A. D. N. « la Guanine (G) s'associe avec la Cytosine (C) » (Monod).

CHIM. Base azotée constitutive des acides nucléiques contenue, entre autres, dans le guano. Les deux types d'acides nucléiques contiennent les deux mêmes bases puriques : l'adénine et la guanine (PRIVAT DE GARILHE, Acides nucl., 1963, p. 16).

Base azotée de la série purique, de formule C6H5ON5, contenue dans le guano, dans le pancréas de certains animaux et dans les guanophores des amphibiens. || La guanine est constitutive d'un des quatre nucléotides formant l'acide désoxyribonucléique (ADN). || Dans l'ADN, la guanine s'associe toujours avec la cytosine (→ Adénine, cit.).
